Sound, setup and timing
- Acoustic first. Strings play acoustic by default. If your space is large, we can use the DJ's microphone or add a sound engineer. More on microphones.
- Chairs. The players sit, so we ask for a chair for each player in each spot.
- Arrival. The musicians get there about 30 minutes before the first note.
- Dress. Suit and tie for the men, black dresses for the women.
- Cocktail hour. Figure about 20 songs for each hour of music, or about 30 for 90 minutes.
Ceremony music, start to finish
Most couples start with a prelude of about 10 songs, roughly half an hour while guests find their seats. Then come the processionals for the parents, the wedding party and the bride. The fewer switches between songs, the smoother the walk, because the players turn pages between pieces. We stop for the vows, pick back up with the recessional, and play about 3 more songs as guests leave. More on ceremony music.
To hold your Discovery World date, you sign the contract and pay a 50% deposit in your BookLive client portal. The balance is due a week before, and paying by bank transfer (ACH) keeps the fee low. Song picks happen in the same portal about two weeks ahead, or you can let us choose.
