Quartet or electric violin?
In Denver, couples sometimes compare us with Extreme Strings, the solo electric violin act our founder also runs. They do different jobs:
- Dream City Strings is acoustic: violins, viola and cello, seated, with a classic, elegant sound. A natural fit for churches, formal ballrooms and a Bridgerton feel.
- Extreme Strings is one electric violinist over full-band backing tracks, made for pop songs, cocktail hour energy and playing along with a DJ.
More on choosing: string quartet or electric violin.

Planning a Colorado wedding with strings
- Shade. Acoustic instruments need shade at outdoor ceremonies, which matters in Colorado sun. A tent or a big leafy tree both work.
- Weather. Anything more than a drizzle and the instruments go back in their cases, and we play best between about 55 and 92 degrees. Plan an indoor or covered backup. Outdoor weddings with strings.
- Sound. A quartet is acoustic. For a large or windy outdoor space, we can borrow your DJ's microphone or add a sound engineer. Does a string quartet need a microphone?
- Chairs. The players sit, so the venue provides a chair for each player in each spot.
How booking works
- Check your date. Send your date, venue and the parts of the day you want music for. We confirm availability and send a proposal.
- Sign and hold the date. You sign the contract and pay a 50% deposit online in your BookLive client portal. The balance is due a week before the wedding, and paying by bank transfer (ACH) keeps the fee low.
- Pick your songs. In the same BookLive portal, choose from hundreds of songs, drag them into order, or let us fill in the rest. Picks are due about two weeks before.
- Plan the day. We line up the timeline with you and your planner, and tell your venue what we need: a chair for each player and shade if you're outside.
- Enjoy it. The musicians arrive about 30 minutes before the music starts, dressed formally, and play exactly what you picked.
